Lent 1 – Untied From Death-Shaped Living
John 11:1–44
We begin at the tomb with Lazarus, naming the quiet resignation that whispers, “This is just how it is.” Jesus delays, weeps, and then calls Lazarus by name, reminding us that resurrection begins not with our effort but with his voice. Yet the miracle does not end there. Jesus turns to the community and commands, “Untie him.” Freedom requires participation.
This first week invites us to consider where we have grown accustomed to living in tombs—fear, grief, numbness, or despair—and challenges us to become people who help move the stones for one another. Resurrection is not a private event; it is communal grace at work.
