Lent 6 (Palm Sunday) – Expectations Untied
John 19:16b–22; John 12:12–27
Crowds shout “Hosanna!” with visions of triumph and victory. Yet within days the same voices will cry “Crucify.” Expectations collide with the unsettling reality of the Messiah who refuses to play the roles assigned to him. Jesus will not become the hero people demand or the enemy others fear. This week invites us to examine the ways we project our hopes, politics, and assumptions onto Christ. Following Jesus means releasing the version of him we prefer so we can encounter the One who truly is. The church learns again that discipleship begins with surrender, not control.
